Try This Delight for a “GRINGO GONE GOYA GATHERING”
Per Usual, This little Combo took place quite by accident when a few of us Dockmates got together “foraging for something good to eat one evening.” Most of these recipes are the result of a creative caper through the cubbard. This time an encounter with a Can of whole white Homony and a can of “Goya Black Beans” made their aquaintance in a stovetop iron skillet! Starting out with a pound of ground beef (or sausage), a tablespoon or two of crushed garlic, crushed pepper, seasonsalt, and a spot of olive-oil in the skillet, a hearty burger base made for a sound carnivourous foundation!
Inspection of the cubbard introduced the Whole White Homony which was sauteed into the burger mix. A stray can of Goya Black Beans that was left over from a Chili cookoff was seen lurking in the back of the pantry. . Well, why not! These three; the Burger, the Homony, and the Black Beans, melted together like long lost relatives, creating a unique gravy of their very own. A little Alpinelace swiss and some grated sharp chedder from the fridge were the last to make their way into the skillet, and Wallah! As we sat down to dine,a moment of contemplation preceeded the amazed tastebuds and the comments to follow. Who would have thought. . .that these ingredients would blend together in such a way, as to make even the most ardent Homony critic a beleiver. Many are like Whole white Homony, others simply claim to be unfamiliar with it, but this mealy soft white fluffed corn product is super with eggs, steak, or as a side dish with fish, or just about any other entree you can think of, so if your not already familiar, get some and learn to love it !!! Oh Yea Sailor!! Black Beans and White Homony are in cans as well, so they stow very well for cruising!
